Josephine Hart’s passion for poetry, and commitment to having it read live, electrified the evenings she hosted at the British Library. The events continue on an occasional basis, with no less capacity to move and inspire.

This year marks the 50 years since the passing of Sylvia Plath, and also since the publication of her novel The Bell Jar. Tonight’s programme will be devoted to the poetry of this exceptionally talented woman.

The programme will be introduced by Frieda Hughes, daughter of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, and the readers are Joanna David and Emilia Fox.

Emilia was at the event opening the ‘B&Q Sentable Forget-me-not’ garden on behalf of Prince Harry’s charity, Sentebale as the event celebrates its centenary year.

British actress Emilia Fox, star of Silent Witness, The Pianist and Merlin, unveiled Prince Harry’s charity show garden, The B&Q Sentebale Forget-Me-Not Garden, at the centenary RHS Chelsea Flower Show today.

The garden has been created to help raise awareness of the Prince’s charity, Sentebale which means ‘forget-me-not’ in Sesotho (the language spoken in Lesotho) and was set up in 2006 in memory of his mother and the Prince Seeiso of Lesotho’s mother Queen Mamohato Bereng Seeiso.

Commenting on the garden, actress Emilia Fox says: “There is something so quintessentially British about the Chelsea Flower Show and I am delighted to help launch The B&Q Sentebale Forget-me-not Garden this week. The garden is very special as it brings together the emotional link of mothers and their children, the bond of true friendship between Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso and embraces the spirit of remembrance, while the plants chosen give everyone the chance to enjoy the spirit of Chelsea during its landmark centenary year and raise funds and awareness for this worthwhile charity.”

Landscape and garden designer, Jinny Blom, who designed the gardens at Temple Guiting Manor, has designed the garden to reflect the landscape of Lesotho and the country’s problems. The unique blanket designs worn by the Basotho people, their unusual circular thatched homes and dramatic landscape are all mirrored in the garden.

The garden took 19 days to complete on site and has been nearly a year in the making with a dedicated team of 79 gardeners, designers, builders and growers working round the clock to deliver a show stopping garden.

Jinny says; “Lesotho has a fascinating landscape and culture that confounds one’s expectations of what makes a country ‘African’. Lesotho’s climate is akin to that of Wales with which it is twinned, cool and damp, hence the need for wearing thick blankets. The garden at Chelsea Flower Show is a contemporary evocation of the mountains, round houses and wonderfully unusual blanket designs that are the national costume. I am hoping to express not only the beauty and rich culture yet also the inaccessibility and fragility of the country. Some of the native flora, such as Nemesia and Silene fimbriata, will be known to British gardeners.”
